Have you ever wanted to venture your sourdough love past bread and to other amazing recipes like pizza dough? Try this simple and delicious sourdough pizza crust recipe and you wont be disappointed!

In my early mom days, I am embarrassed to admit it, but I used canned biscuits for pizza crust for my kid’s pizza. Yeah, I know canned biscuits you say?

What’s in that stuff? I am really not even sure.

My food redemption came with my thyroid health crisis and wanting to take charge of our own lives and health with a homestead lifestyle.

Since then pizza dough around here comes in the form of sourdough. Yes, now I know exactly what’s in it, and more importantly, what’s not.

Over the last few years I have tested and tweeked many sourdough pizza crust recipes. This is my take and it was adapted from a cultures from health recipe.

As with any sourdough recipes make sure you have a good healthy starter. If you are not into making one, did you know you can always buy them online too?

The ingredients

2 C. Sourdough starter

4 Tbsp. Oil (olive oil, coconut oil or grass-fed butter all work great)

2 tsp. Salt

2 1/2 flour ( I use bread flour but anything works, just keep it healthy and organic)

2 tsp. Italian seasoning * optional *

4 Tbsp. Water

Combine the flour, Italian seasoning and salt. Mix those together well. Then add the wet ingredients.

Now it’s best to just get dirty and dig in, mix thoroughly. Divide the dough into two pieces and place them in a covered bowls to rest for 45 minutes to an hour (for a quick crust).

Alternatively, you can also leave them for 3-6 hours to rise and to let the dough to process more. For a really fantastic crust placed covered bowls in the fridge for 12-24 hours.

When the dough has fermented roll the dough on a floured surface and place onto two separate pizza pans. Brush it with oil (or grass-fed butter for extra deliciousness)

Add your favorite sauce, toppings and cheese.

Bake at 450°F until crust is golden brown and cheeses have melted.

Ingredients

  • 2 C. Sourdough starter

  • Combine the flour, Italian seasoning, and salt. Mix those together well.

  • Divide the dough into two pieces and place in an oiled bowl and cover to rest for 45 minutes to an hour (for a quick crust).

  • Alternatively, you can also leave them for 3-6 hours out on a countertop to rise and to let the dough to process more. For a really great crust, place the covered crust in the fridge for 12-24 hours.

  • When your dough is ready roll the dough out on a floured surface and place it into two separate pizza pans. Brush it with your favorite oil (or grass-fed butter for extra deliciousness).

  • Add your favorite sauce, toppings, and cheese.

  • Bake at 450°F until crust is golden brown and cheeses have melted or about 15 minutes.

Notes

I leave out or add spices or herbs depending on the type of pizza I am making. When I make a family favorite pizza with a BBQ sauce or sweet Thai chili sauce I omit the Italian herbs. If I am making a more traditional pizza I make sure to add the herbs in.
