Victoria Beckham addresses 'miserable cow reputation' after major change at 50 (2024)

Spice Girls reunite at Victoria Beckham's 50th birthday bash

Victoria Beckham has said she's finally seen a change in the way she poses for picture after gaining what she's called "the reputation of being such a miserable cow". Known for her trademark pout, Victoria mostly tends to avoid interacting with unplanned paparazzi pictures and seemingly likes to be in control of her own content.

One thing widely noticed about Victoria over the years is failing to show her teeth in pictures, which was a talking point during her recent trip in Miami. While dancing in a video with daughter-in-law Nicola Peltz, Victoria noticeably rushed to cover her teeth after showing them for a few seconds.

Many of her 32 million picked up on the move as one wrote: "Why does VB keep covering her mouth??" A second commented: "You smiled and then covered it like somehow we don't know you can actually smile."

A third typed: "Why do u cover your beautiful smile? Never understood that."(sic) Another typed: "Victoria your smile is so cute please stop hiding and you look younger than your daughter in-law." A fifth commented: "Don’t cover your beautiful smile, don’t be silly."

Addressing turning 50, Victoria said she's noticed a change in the way she works the camera, sharing with The Sunday Times: "I looked at some pictures of myself recently and was really struck by how happy I looked. In the past I’ve always looked at those red carpet pictures of me and seen a woman who looks nervous and insecure.

"Everyone else saw a woman who looked grumpy and stern — I suppose that’s how I got the reputation of being such a miserable cow."

Victoria went on to share the advice she's received from Marc Jabobs about getting older, telling the publication: "I always remember Marc Jacobs saying to me when he turned 60 that it was better than the alternative of not turning 60. It’s good advice!

"But generally I feel good about things. I have better opportunities now than I did when I was younger."

The Spice Girl turned fashion designer marked the milestone age on April 17 and received an outpouring of love from her husband David Beckham, their children, and fans across the world on social media.

Reflecting on her 50 years in an Instagram post, Victoria said she was feeling "blessed, accomplished and deeply content" about how far she had come as a wife, mother and businesswoman.

She added: "My ambition was always to empower women and make them feel like the best version of themselves. To me, that meant trusting my instinct and never compromising on my creative vision."

Victoria went on to say she is "lucky" to have David for believing in her more than she ever could and expressed her love for their four children; Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper.

"You complete me. I’m so proud, so in awe of the kind, hard-working, talented individuals you are all becoming," she added.

As part of her many celebrations, Victoria let her hair down at her lavish birthday bash held in Mayfair, London, on Saturday night.

During the evening, the mother-of-four reunited with her fellow Spice Girls Emma Bunton, Mel C, Geri Horner and Mel B and sang along to their hit Stop.

Fans have since called for the five-piece to finally get together and perform on stage for the first time in 12 years.

Victoria chose not to join her fellow band mates when they reunited for a nationwide tour back in 2019.

Addressing her reasons at the time, she told Vogue Germany: "It took me a lot of courage not to go on tour with the Spice Girls again, but to be the one who says: 'You know, I'm not doing it because things feel different now than they used to'.

"I'd rather concentrate on my family and my company. I'm 45 now and very happy to be the woman I am."
